Leigh Raymond Matthews, born March 1, 1952, entered the "sacked coach club" before joining the Brisbane Lions. He was the seventh coach in a row to be dismissed.
Brisbane Lions Coaching Tenure
After a stint in the media, Matthews moved to Brisbane in 1999 to coach the Brisbane Lions. He led the team for ten years and coached 237 games, leaving an impressive legacy.

Matthews's career as both a player and coach in the VFL/AFL has been marked by success. His achievements have been recognized and celebrated with numerous honors, including induction into the AFL Hall of Fame and the Queensland Football Hall of Fame.
Time Out from Coaching
Before joining the Brisbane Lions, Matthews had been out of the coaching game since leaving Collingwood at the end of 1995.
