Alex De Minaur Creates History At Roland Garros

Alex de Minaur Creates History at Roland Garros

Australian Reaches Quarterfinals for First Time

Alex de Minaur has etched his name into the history books at Roland Garros, becoming the first Australian male in 20 years to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open. The 23-year-old upset fifth seed Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2, on Monday.

Medvedev's Demise

Medvedev, the world number two, was the highest seed to fall in the men's singles tournament so far. The Russian was bidding to become the first man since Bjorn Borg to win the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back.

However, de Minaur was in inspired form, breaking Medvedev's serve six times and dominating the rallies from the baseline. The Australian took the first set in just 32 minutes and never looked back.

Historic Achievement

De Minaur's victory marks a significant milestone for Australian men's tennis. He is the first Australian man to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open since Mark Philippoussis in 2003.

The world number 24 will face either Rafael Nadal or Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals. De Minaur will be hoping to continue his stunning run and create even more history at Roland Garros.
