The original 1984 film has since spawned two sequels, Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), both directed by Tony Scott and starring Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley.

In 2016, a fourth film in the series was announced to be in development, with Eddie Murphy set to reprise his role. However, the film has yet to be released.
